The Fixx heard in "The House of the Devil"

I just recently watch the 2009 horror film The House of the Devil and was pleasantly surprised. I was hoping I would like it, but admittedly wary of many modern horror films. I intentionally stayed away from reviews, because I wanted to see it as fresh as possible without being influenced by outside opinions  I plan to write a more lengthy review on my sister site "Sideshow Cinema", but for now and since this blog was for many moons a soundtrack centric place I wanted to touch on the soundtrack to the film.

The movie, and hopefully this isn't a spoiler, is set in the 80s. The original score is great haunting stuff, but I really loved those few scenes when pop music of the time was used when the characters had music on. One great example of this is when character Samantha puts on her WalkMan and headphones and cranks up the track "One Thing Leads to Another" by the band The Fixx. This really captured for me that love I have of hearing pop music in 80s classic films. When done right both the scene, and music are somehow enhanced... and probably forever now when I hear this song the movie will come to mind and that, my friends, isn't a bad thing. Now of course this isn't a true film from the 80s but it is a film that was done in that style/vibe if you will and did it expertly.

Bob Johns, I highly recommend checking it out. It's not a balls to the wall horror movie. It's a more atmospheric, slow burn type of flick, but I thought it was great.
