Dexter - Main and End themes

Sorry I've been away for a bit. Job interviews beckoned and since getting new job is top priority, the blog was on the back burner for a bit.

I have here the main theme and end credits tracks from the extremely fantastic Dexter television show. If you haven't seen this show yet, I highly recommend it. The main theme was done by Rolfe Kent and the end credits are from Daniel Linct. Daniel scores the entire show as well. If you are a fan of the show's great music pick up the full Dexter soundtrack for your listening pleasure Enjoy!

Sex & The City and Six Feet Under main themes

Ok, I'm back and on to my TV show themes series of posts I said I would have. Here are two HBO themes to tie into the last OZ theme I posted. Today I have the "Sex and the City" main theme and the "Six Feet Under" main theme.

Also, I have an extra theme in this download for folks who watched HBO back in the day. I don't want to get your hopes up with thinking is it the "Dream On" theme or "Fraggle Rock", but it's a theme that brings back memories to me. Enjoy!

HBO's OZ - main theme

Since I was on this Wizard of Oz kick lately, I thought I'd transition my Oz posts to my next series of posts... TV main themes. The first theme I have here is for the HBO series OZ (very fitting I thought). Which, if you don't know is a 6 season running prison drama, which is one of the best shows you can find out there, at least the first 3 seasons are and then it begins to lose some steam and get a bit crazy, but still an enjoyable show. All the characters are so well played it feels like you are watching a real prison world, not that I know what prison is like, but I'm damn sure I don't want to know from first hand experience. The show takes place inside an experimental section of the Oswald Penitentiary. This section of the prison is named "Emerald City", I guess since the nickname for the prison is OZ, it was only fitting to name the section something from the Wizard of Oz.

This is the title track that plays during the opening credits and it's a track that just sticks in my head long after I've watched an episode. The music in the show was done by David Darlington & Steven Rosen so I'm guessing they put this theme together. Enjoy!

Return to OZ - David Shire
Full Soundtrack

As promised in my last post (if you were able to make it though that novel), I have here the complete soundtrack to the film Return to Oz. The score was done by David Shire and is quite an entertianing score to this film. The first track off this ablum is also my favorite, it goes from happy we are in Kansas to a darker threatening theme as Dorthy is being taken to an institution to help deal with her memories of Oz, which Aunt Em believes to be a pyschosis of some kind.

Well, I touched on it in the last post, this film really seems to capture the feeling of the Oz books, a little strange, funny and much darker that the previous film, as you can see by the quote below. It is one of my all time favorite flicks and Fairuza Balk plays Dorthy superberly, she doesn't try to emulate Judy Garland, but plays Dorthy her way. If you haven't seen this one, give it a shot. Anywho, Enjoy the soundtrack! (Note: I've included a bonus track here called Return to Oz performed by Victoria Wood.

"Not beautiful you understand, but you have a certain prettiness, different from my other heads. I believe I'll lock you in the tower for a few years until your head is ready. And then I'll take it."

The Wizard Of Oz
Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

I'm recently reading the book "Wicked", the book about the Wicked Witch of the West, before she was the famous witch. I have to say it's quite an amazing book and really is stirring up my interst in the Wizard of Oz again, and that being said since this is a soundtrack blog it's time to post a Wizard of Oz soundtrack. This is the 26 track album labeled as "Selections From The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack". There is another 2 disc set that has even more tracks from the film for the hard core fan, but for someone like myself this soundtrack has all the "hits" and even some extened tracks and tracks that didn't make the cut in the final flim.

Speaking of the film, I have to say although it's hugely well known even today and perhaps even called classic to many, it s as a film based on a book falls a bit flat for me. As a stand alone flim not being compared to the book, then it's enjoyable, but I'm saying, READ the books if you haven't, they are much darker and have some very interesting things that didn't make it into the final film. Thankfully many, many years later the film "Return to Oz" came out and that captured the tone and look of the books very well. If you look at the illustrations from the books, you'll see how similar the classic characters look, but not only that the tone is much darker and dare I say scarier than the previous film (flying monkeys aside). My next post will be the score to the "Return to Oz" film. Well, for now enjoy the original Oz soundtrack! As an added bonus I have included the Lux Radio Show's Christmas radio performance of the Wizard of Oz starring Judy Garland. If you a fan of old-time radio I think you'll enjoy it. It's heavily based on this film version.

"Who killed my sister? Who killed the Witch of the East? Was it you? "
